Molten Cookie in India: Instagram Is Ahead of Google. Should Your Cafe Add One?

The molten cookie is everywhere on Indian cafe Instagram this week. Open Google and it is barely there.
In Google Trends for India, "molten cookie" was 0 every single week for 12 months. Then it hit 100 in the week of 18 to 24 October 2026, on its own scale, where 100 is just its best week. Look at the daily numbers and it is 1, 2, 1 on the last three days. That is the whole search story so far (Google Trends, India, pulled 24 October 2026).
So Instagram is ahead of Google. We wanted to know by how much, and what a cafe should do about it.
What is a molten cookie?
A thick, warm cookie with a soft or runny centre. The centre is usually milk chocolate, Nutella or biscoff. It is served warm, often on a scoop of ice cream, and it is cut or pulled open at the table so the centre runs out.
You know the sizzling brownie with ice cream from a family restaurant? Same idea, in a cookie, and made to be filmed.

How big is the molten cookie trend in India?
Big in feeds, tiny in search.
Cookie sits around 72 to 86 in the same comparison. Brownie is 56 to 69. Hot chocolate is 21 to 30. Molten cookie is 0 to 2.
The search exists, just, and it is three days old. Over the last 7 days, Maharashtra is at 100, Telangana 46 and Karnataka 23. The top related search is "molten cookie recipe", marked a breakout.
Google India's own suggestions for "molten cookie" are "molten cookie bandra", "with ice cream", "tin" and "recipe" (Google autosuggest, India, 24 October 2026).
Most people miss this: people are not asking Google for the molten cookie yet. They are asking Instagram. A cafe that waits for Google to confirm it will add it after the feed has moved on.
Which Indian cafes sell the molten cookie?
From the Instagram posts we read on 24 October 2026, it is a Mumbai story first. A guide post by @mformumbai on 19 October listed six places: MUVN Coffee, Not Far, Mr Misu and Sanji's in Bandra West, Little Sihi Dessert Bar in Andheri West, and Amei, which takes orders by DM.
It is not only Mumbai. Cake Caboodle in Magarpatta, Pune posted its own on 18 October. Cinnamon Swirl in Nashik and Criolo Patisserie in Kandivali West posted theirs on 21 October.
MUVN Coffee said its Nutella molten cookie with ice cream would be on the menu from 14 October.

Where did it start? We can only say what we saw. The oldest Indian post we read is from the second week of October 2026.
One earlier cousin was a scoopable cookie tin in Bandra, in a post Google showed as about five months old on 24 October, which we did not open, priced at Rs 600 with taxes (@letsgetbakedinbombay). Our read: the tin came first, and the single molten cookie on ice cream is its cafe version.
Maharashtra leading in Trends fits what we saw on Instagram. We found far fewer posts from Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and cannot say whether that is the trend or just our search.
How much does a molten cookie cost in a cafe?
Rs 220 at the one cafe that printed a price. One reel quotes Rs 320. Our table has what we found, and where.
| Where | What | Price |
|---|---|---|
| MUVN Coffee, Bandra | Nutella cookie with ice cream | Rs 220 |
| Bandra cafe, not named in reel snippet | Viral molten cookie | Rs 320 |
| Hav Coffee, Chowpatty, Mumbai | Plain molten cookie | Rs 91 |
| B Browniee, Goa | Plain molten cookie | Rs 169 |
| Amore Bakery, Ranchi | Molten cookie tub, 350 g | Rs 650 |
| 101 Patisserie, Nagpur | Molten cookie tin | Rs 1,299 |
The first two rows are the cafe format in the photos. MUVN's Rs 220 comes from its own Instagram poster of 13 October. The Rs 320 is from a Google snippet of a @mformumbai reel. We did not open the reel, and the snippet does not name the cafe.
The rest are Swiggy listings for older plain molten cookies, tubs and tins. They are different products, so do not read them as a price range for the cafe version.
What does a molten cookie cost to make?
About Rs 88 for one with ice cream. That is our estimate, and here is the sum.

| Part | How much | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Dough | 110 g at Rs 0.45 | Rs 50 |
| Centre spread | 20 g at Rs 0.60 | Rs 12 |
| Ice cream scoop | 60 g at Rs 0.30 | Rs 18 |
| Crunch and box | one portion | Rs 8 |
| Total | Rs 88 |
At Rs 220 that keeps Rs 132. If the Rs 320 holds, it keeps Rs 232. Both are before GST, rent, staff and gas. Without the scoop, the cost is about Rs 70.
Change every row to your own bills. Dough is the big number, so weigh it. A cookie that is 20 g heavier costs you about Rs 9 more, and the customer does not see it.
Will the molten cookie last, or is it a blip?
Two cookie trends came before it. Neither stayed. "Stuffed cookie" scored 8 in India in 2021, in our Google Trends five year pull, then fell to near 0.
"NYC cookie" scored 2 to 3 in 2025. We do not know if the molten cookie will do better.
Our read: the first month of a food trend is a feed trend, and feeds move on. The cookie itself will not vanish. The molten, filmed version might.
That is why we would test it small, not rebuild the menu around it. One cookie on the counter, one weekend special, and a week of numbers.
What should a cafe serve with a molten cookie?
A thick hot chocolate. A warm cookie asks for a warm drink, and a thin cup disappears next to it.

- Beside it, as the drink. A cup made at the low end of the milk range is thick enough to hold its own. Our dessert dip article gives 150 ml of milk per 50 g sachet.
- As the dip. Break the cookie, dip the pieces in the cup. It is the same idea as churros in thick chocolate.
- As a set price. Put the cookie and the cup on one line at one price, the way the dessert dip article suggests. A cup costs about Rs 60 to 88 in full (our own costing), so add that to the Rs 88 above before you set the price.
- With ice cream or without. A cookie with a hot cup beside it can skip the scoop. That is our suggestion, not something we have tested.
One idea we have not tested: using a thick hot chocolate as the molten centre. We do not know how it sets inside a baked cookie, so treat it as a trial for your kitchen, not a recipe.
If your cafe already makes cookie dough, you may be set up for this. Our cookie dough hot chocolate article covers the dough safety and costing side. Our signature drink article covers why one named item beats five copies of a trend.

Our hot chocolate comes as classic dark and Belgian-style milk. Dark stands up to a sweet Nutella centre and the milk one suits a plain cookie, which is our judgement from tasting, not a panel test.
What to do next
- Make the cost sum above with your own dough, spread and ice cream prices.
- Run it for one weekend, as a special, at a price near Rs 220 to 320, and count the sales.
- Serve a thick cup beside it and put the two on one price line.
- Check Google Trends for "molten cookie" in three weeks. If the line has not moved, you have an Instagram item, not a search item.
- If it sells, ask for a sample of our hot chocolate on our samplers page or write to us on the B2B page.
The feed shows what is new. The search line shows what stays.
